Garrard has a long history designing royal brooches. One of the most famous creations is the Cullinan V Brooch, crafted in 1911 for Queen Mary featuring the 18.80 carat heart-shaped Cullinan V diamond, one of nine principal stones cut from the Cullinan Diamond, the largest gem-quality rough diamond ever discovered.
The jewel was a favourite of Queen Elizabeth II, who wore it throughout her reign, including during her surprise front-row appearance at London Fashion Week in 2018, seated alongside Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. It was also chosen for her memorable Platinum Jubilee sketch with Paddington Bear in 2022.
In 2023, the Cullinan V diamond returned to Queen Mary's Crown for the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, echoing its earlier use in the crown for the Coronation of King George VI in 1937. Today, the Cullinan V remains one of the most recognisable and historically significant jewels in the Royal Collection, demonstrating how Garrard creations continue to be worn and reinterpreted by successive generations of the Royal Family.
